Away:

With less than 2 weeks away, last minute travels rates could put a damper on the destination of your choice, so think outside of the box and stick close to home. Experience the joy of a road trip getaway without venturing too far – visit a nearby city to get your fix of the hustle and bustle, embrace the staycation trend and act like a tourist, visit popular hangouts and indulge in the local fare. One of my staycation musts, “The Jewel of the Desert”, better known as Arizona Biltmore. 8 swimming pools, fine food and drink, live music, activities for the kids and some drool-worthy decor – sounds like a backlist staycation to me! Designer side note: The incredible, world renowned architect, Frank Lloyd Wright was the mastermind behind this popular structure. [Read More

The Wachs Mix: In Bloom Edition

THE WACHS MIX: IN BLOOM EDITION

As we breeze into April, I really feel like it’s time to stop and smell the flowers. No, I’m not referring to a sudden desire to get my green thumb on… I’m talking about taking my time for the small things. I feel a pretty wonderful month coming on and I want to savor every minute. Therefore, taking time to stop and smell the flowers.

We are in the midst of Spring and all this flower smelling has me feeling inspired by blooms! They are not just everywhere in nature during this time of year, they are also showing up in the glossies – home and fashion. So, April’s Wachs Mix is blooming pretty!

Shopping local for bouquets in brown paper wrapping. A burst of light. The only time when walking on flowers is a must. Delicate glass cacti – I’ll take all three! Inspiring reading – a must have subscription. Up close and personal on a bronze stand… so handsome. Tropical inspired fabric, I’ll take many yards please! A sweet bone inlay accent table, just begging for a chair to sit with. And last but not least, these elegant botanical prints – need or want?

1. A beautiful bouquet from Camelback Flowershop/ 2. Small Copper Pendant Light Fixture by Cyan on Candelabra  / 3. Hand-knotted Tibetan Rug by Knots Rugs on 1st Dibs / 4. Bone Inlay Accent Table by Made Goods/ 5. The inspiring Flower Magazine / 6. 1960’s Magnifying Glass on Brass Stand on One Kings Lane / 7. Decorative Barrel Cactus from Formations/ 8. Tropical Fantasy Fabric by Thibaut/ 9. Elegantly Rustic Urn from Formations/ 10. Framed Botanical Art by Formations

For my those who haven’t heard, The Wachs Mix is a feature in our monthly newsletter, if you have yet to join the list of fabulous readers… here’s your chance. And because I already love you I’m sharing some sweet tips on texturing.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Photoshoot

Photoshoot days are always so exciting – nonstop, on the go, and exhausted at the finish line – but so darn exciting! I like to be on site bright and early to begin the process of staging. I arrive bright and early, with a Venti cup in hand and a car filled to the brim with delightful trinkets and items of decor, ready to pull up my sleeves and get to work. You see, there are a lot of behind the scenes blood, sweat, and tears that go into these glossy shoots. “Wait a minute! Take it back a step or two. Blood?” you may be asking. Yes! Sometimes you can’t resist that most beautiful, oversized crystal on a pedestal telling you that it will look so fabulous sitting on that built in shelf next to the fireplace. I mean, c’mon, we’re talking an oversized, heavier than a sack of many potatoes, crystal on a pedestal here. Who could walk away from that? Point being, sometimes more than two people aren’t enough to carry such an item and before you know it, limbs are being crushed.

Anyway! Despite the dashing about I always find my happy place – chopping accent pillows on beautiful beds, filling vases with fresh flowers, and creating tablescapes for guests that will never arrive, among many others.

I’ll say it again, Photoshoot days are always so exciting. They are the days I get to dwell, for a moment, in the spaces I spent so many working hours in and a chance to share what I love with all of you.

My wonderful, talented, fabulous, amazing photographer (can you tell I’m a fan?), Velen (VWC Studio), captured every space with such patience and care, and put her 100% all into each scene. I couldn’t be more grateful to have such a talent on my team.
