Fabulous & Frightening

Let’s get one thing clear, when it comes to Halloween, orange is not mandatory. Traditional, yes, but certainly doesn’t warrant a slap on the wrist if you opt out. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about tradition and quite in love with many things orange, but today I’d like to explore the untouched side of Halloween decor with 3 different styles of tablescapes. A little bit of inspiration for that upcoming party you may be hosting amongst the knocks of Trick or Treaters.

Dark & Mysterious

For the dark side decorator, this tablescape gets in touch with the dark and mysterious side of Halloween. Midnight blacks, grand golds, sips of “poison” and creepy crawlers come together to create an element of spook and sophistication.

Natural & Moody

For lovers of Halloween, minus tradition, a natural palette with raw textures and pops of moody colors is the perfect combination. This table screams Halloween in the most subtle of ways.

Design Inspiration with Marie Flanigan

As a designer, I am always on the look out for my next source of inspiration and it can come from so many different places as well as in many different forms – a printed fabric on a blouse in a store front window, brushstroke colors on a piece of art, texture on a piece of pottery found at an estate sale, or simply through the work of others. Much of my inspiration comes while admiring the work of some of my most admired designers and artists, we all have our own unique style when it comes to designing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be influenced by the creative works of others.

Today I’d like to spend a moment appreciating one of my sources of inspiration – Marie Flanigan. She is an extremely talented designer, I see her work as natural elegance and always so full of light.

Upon “entering” any one of these rooms, you can’t deny the serene and calming vibe bouncing back at you. Neutral tones set off by flashes of gold, natural textures, tailored lines, all come together to create “refined elegance and innovative simplicity.”

An Andrea curation, with a little Marie flare, to get your juices flowing this fine Friday morning! Enjoy and remember, inspiration is around every corner!

Toning into Fall

Summer 2017 has been fulfilling and one to remember, but I am ready to greet Fall with open arms, and in 15 days I will be doing just that! I’m feeling ready for a reason to wrap a scarf around my neck, fill up on lattes and pumpkin spice aromas, and all things in warm tones. Who’s with me!? The color experts at Pantone released their Fall 2017 Fashion Color Report for New York Fashion Week, and they are cozy.

My heart is so broken for our friends in Texas, but I wanted to start this month on a most positive note – support. I shared 3 different ways we can contribute to help relieve some of the burden that Texas is carrying.

Please consider donating to one of these amazing organizations to help those dear people, and animals, recover from this tragedy.

Artist/Designer Spotlight: Zoe Pawlak

Welcome to Wachs This Ways’ new feature, Artist/Designer Spotlight. There are so many wonderful and talented humans out there and I believe they need a shout out, so I’m here to do just that.

After some serious creative soul surfing on the web recently I discovered Canadian artist, Zoe Pawlak. Her contemporary artwork is so refreshing and moody – in all of the right ways. She makes contemporary take on such a diversity – figurative, floral and landscapes – each with its own flair of personality. From canvas to floor, I love it all! Yup, you heard me correctly, floor – her rug collection is a show stopper!

Top of my list, if I must choose one, Rising

I couldn’t stand to not share both of these beauties! Oh! The floors I can envision them on.

Entertain: Be the best hostess

It’s almost Easter, and another lovely opportunity to host a few of your most special guests. Playing hostess is such a treat for me, though it can bring on some minor anxieties – What will the menu be? What time? What drinks? What to wear…seriously, am I asking myself this question? Ultimately, I know when it comes down to the end of the evening there is going to be a delightful buzz in my home with full bellies, refilled drinks and laughing guests. I know when the sink is full of dishes, my heart is going to be full of joy, because… playing hostess is such a treat for me!

Drinks, dinner and decor… here’s what I’m loving…

First things first, quench the taste buds with a delicious cocktail. My suggestion is the popular and well-loved cocktail from Mexico, The Paloma. A refreshing alternative to the margarita.

The tablescape? Say no more, Filigree Suppers by Elise Metzger & Brita Olsen have taken the cake with their decor! Oh. My. Goodness.

Are you planning on hosting? Have you planned your menu? What’s on your bar cart? And what are you going to wear!? From one hostess to another, do tell!

The Wachs Mix: In Bloom Edition

THE WACHS MIX: IN BLOOM EDITION

As we breeze into April, I really feel like it’s time to stop and smell the flowers. No, I’m not referring to a sudden desire to get my green thumb on… I’m talking about taking my time for the small things. I feel a pretty wonderful month coming on and I want to savor every minute. Therefore, taking time to stop and smell the flowers.

We are in the midst of Spring and all this flower smelling has me feeling inspired by blooms! They are not just everywhere in nature during this time of year, they are also showing up in the glossies – home and fashion. So, April’s Wachs Mix is blooming pretty!

Shopping local for bouquets in brown paper wrapping. A burst of light. The only time when walking on flowers is a must. Delicate glass cacti – I’ll take all three! Inspiring reading – a must have subscription. Up close and personal on a bronze stand… so handsome. Tropical inspired fabric, I’ll take many yards please! A sweet bone inlay accent table, just begging for a chair to sit with. And last but not least, these elegant botanical prints – need or want?
